What is a recessed shower niche?

A recessed shower niche is a waterproof storage area built into the wall, providing convenient space for toiletries without projecting into the shower area.

Does a Shower Niche Need Waterproofing?

Yes. Although the niche itself is waterproof, it must be correctly integrated into the surrounding wall waterproofing. All joints between the niche and wall should be securely sealed before tiling to create a continuous waterproof installation.

 

Can I tile directly onto the niche?

Yes. Once the niche has been correctly installed and integrated into the surrounding waterproofing system, tiles or mosaics can be applied using a suitable tile adhesive.

What size shower niche should I choose?

This depends on the available wall space, tile layout and the amount of storage required. Smaller niches work well for essential toiletries, while larger or taller niches provide additional storage.

Can a niche be installed in any wall?

The wall must have sufficient depth and suitable construction to accommodate and securely support the niche. Always check for pipework, cables and structural components before installation.
