Tile Backer Board Fixing FAQs
Why are washers used with tile backer board?
Fixing washers spread the load of the screw across a larger area of the board, helping to hold the tile backer board securely without the screw head pulling through its surface.

Do tile backer board fixings need waterproofing?
Mechanical fixings penetrate the surface of the tile backer board, so all fixing points must be correctly sealed as part of the waterproofing system. We recommend continuously tanking the entire main wet area, even when using waterproof tile backer boards. Outside this area, all board joints, fixings and penetrations should still be correctly sealed.
